Major reality check.

The cold, hard world of publishing came crashing down on my head today. After sending my first query, as requested at the SFWC, out to an agent on Friday I harboured notions of best sellers and demand for subsequent books. Todays email box had a reply, which I assumed was the standard automatic “thanks we got your query and will reply in due course.”

NAH. It was the REJECTION letter. “Not for us. Good luckl” (I quote, It’s not a mispell). Bummer. My first rejection letter. At least I got to know real quick, no waiting around hoping, wondering. Just a big cold bucket of water over the head. Kinda wakes you up.

Onward I guess. I need to finish editing the first 50 pages for the other agent who wanted to see “Tough Justice.” And a myriad of other ideas fight for prominance in my head. Which book next? Guess I’ll be spending some time doing more Epub and POD research. “Full speed ahead, damn the torpedoes.”

So my time has passed for a response from one of the agents I sent ten pages to. I didn’t get an email saying “No, thank you.” Their website just says, “if you don’t hear from us in a month, then your work is not a good fit for our agency.” I think I’d rather have the letter than be left to wonder. At least you know they read yours. As far as I know, no one even saw mine. And then there’s that feeling that maybe they’re just running behind. . . Sucks. Either way. Every way. But . . .far worse . . . not trying at all. Keep moving forward.
